Thomas’ work in the Department of War Studies covers a broad spectrum of security questions. As author of ‘Cyber War Will Not Take Place’, which analyses political computer network intrusions, Thomas is ideally placed to deliver eye-opening anecdotes on major security breaches which have had a global impact – including the SONY hack and physically destructive incidents in a German steel mill and a pipeline in Turkey. The main driver of cyber security spending in financial services companies is compliance – not innovation, Thomas believes this is a problem and should be challenged.
